A Day in the Clouds

Kristin and I took the kids to see our grandmother Margaret and Aunt Lori and spent a really nice day with them! First we laid around on Grandma's grass (the kids) and gazebo (the ladies), then we visited horses at "Fraulein" Maria's house.* And finally we had a yummy dinner at Lori's house where the girls went swimming in the hot tub which is perched on the side of a mountain!

*Grandma's neighbor is a sweet woman named Maria. Meg and Emeri happen to both be very enamored with Fraulein Maria (The Sound of Music), so as soon as they heard we were going to visit Maria and her horses, they firmly believed she was the one and only Fraulein. They were shocked and enchanted by the fact that she has horses and now lives across the street from Grandma Margaret! The fairy tale was only further developed in their little hearts when we discovered these sweet horses living at the top of a mountain with gorgeous vistas of valleys and we even saw the ocean and Channel Islands from up there. The girls both ran to Maria for big long hugs and had huge smiles as they asked about the Captain (Von Trapp, that is) and the children (who were at school. . . wink, wink). Isn't it amazing how thoroughly children believe a fairy tale? Don't you wish you could still believe in such idealism? :) I hope they hang onto this purity forever, but alas--the real world will come and eat them up soon. Soon they'll be doing algebra and that changes a person forever.
